The human hair is delicate, especially when they are wet. The hair dryer can be a handy, useful tool when it comes to hair drying. Nevertheless, some experts discourage their use because of their potentially harmful nature. Thus, you may be wondering the best way to use a hairdryer without damaging your hair. Keep reading to find the answer to all your questions.

Exposing the hair to too much heat can damage the hair cuticles leading to breakage or split hair. While the hairdryer remains one of the best tools to keep the hair dry, it needs to be used with utmost caution. Some tips can help you to do it correctly. Below are six expert advice on how to use the hairdryer a safe way without damaging your hair follicles.

Six useful tips for using the hairdryer

1. Before using a blow dryer, prepare the hair

The first step to using the blow dryer is to prepare the hair. Avoid the use of a blow dryer on dripping wet hair. The hair is more susceptible to breakage when it comes in contact with heat from a blow dryer. If you are in a hurry, you can consider using a towel to pat-dry the hair. Be gentle with the hair when towel drying; do not rub or pull the hair.

Excess pressure can damage your hair roots and cuticle. A safer way to dry the hair is the use of a hair turban for drying hair to get rid of excess moisture. The use of the hair turban can get rid of up to 50% of the water in the hair before exposing it to heat from a blow dryer.

2. Protect your hair with heat protectants

Use heat Protectants sprays and cream to protect your hair from overexposure to heat. You can easily find a collection of the best heat Protectants online today. Hair Protectants are specially formulated to ensure your hair is protected from the adverse effect of heat on the hair. It also reduces hair frizzing. Luckily, a lot of them work perfectly on all hair types.

There are many products on the market today, and making a choice can be confusing. You can ask your stylist for recommendations when buying a heat protectant. Your stylist can also use a Leave-in Conditioner to protect your hair from damage and frizz when heating the hair.

3. Avoid settings the heat to maximum when drying the hair

A lot of women make the mistake of setting their hairdryer to the highest heat when drying their hair. Perhaps, their goal is to achieve faster drying at a short time—but it comes at a painful cost. Setting the hairdryer to high can cause your hair to lose its natural moisture and oil. Continuous use of high temperatures on the hair can slowly lead to irreversible damage. Patience is an important virtue when using a hairdryer.

4. Segment your hair before drying

Don’t make the mistake of trying to dry your hair in one piece. The best way to dry your hair is to do it in segments. Segment your hair and hold them with a clip. Take the small sections one at a time. Start drying your hair from the lower side around the neck and move up gradually. Sweep the dryer from the root to the tip.

When using the blow dryer, movement is key. Don’t leave the dryer on one spot for too long. Segmenting your hair will allow you to achieve more uniform drying. This prevents the situation where a portion becomes too dry while another is wet. Segmenting is a good way to cut down on the length of time your hair is exposed to heat.

5. Invest in the correct hairdryer and accessories

There are different hair dryers on the market, but they are not created equal. Some give you better control over the heat and blow speed. The general rule of thumb is that the more controls you have, the better drying you can achieve.

Likewise, there are lots of accessories that can be used with a hairdryer. Avoid using accessories that are not designed for your dryer. When replacing active parts like the nozzles, ensure to use only recommended parts.

6. The hair should not be completely dry

Blow drying requires a lot of care and commitment. As you dry, continue to check the hair from time to time till you attain uniform moisture. Feel free to experiment with different sizes of hair segments to see what works best for you.

Conclusion

Hairdryers remain one of the easiest ways to dry your hair faster and restore the glow to it. However, you need to follow the right steps to get it right. The job will be a lot easier if you invest in the right product and use hair protectants.
