You have been experiencing back pain for a while now and you have tried many solutions but could not find the relief you need. Perhaps you have tried pain medications, physical therapy, and even relaxation techniques but you got limited success. What about surgery? For some people, surgery might be their last option. But, surgery is actually not the immediate option. Many people with back pain don’t really need it. However, there are signs back surgery is for you. They include:

Your Pain is Disabling

The majority of back pain heals on its own, often within a couple of months. But, if you experience pain beyond this timeline, it might be best to talk to your doctor about the possibility of surgery. Back surgery might be your option if conservative treatments have not worked and you still experience a disabling pain. You can get your surgery at a general hospital or at a pain management center in houston tx.

Your Pain is Progressive

In case your pain does not subside and is getting worse, you must visit your doctor. Focus on increasing weakness in your extremities or serious back pain which comes on suddenly. These could mean there is a problem in your body that needs immediate attention and treatment that includes surgery.

You Experience Bowel or Bladder Problems

If your back pain comes with bowel or bladder problems, this can indicate spinal stenosis and may result in an emergency. Visit your doctor right away to know if you need surgery and get your condition treated. Your doctor will focus on your bowel or bladder problem to deal with your pain.

You have Degenerative Conditions that are Getting Worse

Back pain that results from degenerative conditions such as scoliosis is likely to be alleviated with surgery. The surgical techniques used today can amazingly decrease back pain associated with progressive degenerative conditions. The possibility of surgery for you will depend on your diagnosis and your back issue’s progression.

You Feel Tingling or Numbness in the Legs

This symptom can indicate you have nerve issues associated with a back injury. If you experience this symptom, you may or may not need surgery. Your physician will perform tests to pinpoint the issue and outline possible treatment options for treating your back pain.

You Have Bone Spurs or Herniated Discs

Either of these conditions can cause intense pain and limit your mobility. You can only deal with your condition by considering surgery.
