Five Common Misconceptions Associated with Assisted Reproduction

A lot of people wait until later in life to have kids. This is the reason many of them turn to assisted reproduction to increase their chances of getting pregnant. Some myths surround the various fertility treatments available and some people are likely to put off considering their options because of the following myths:

Fertility Treatments can Cause Health Issues in Babies

Some people think that babies conceived through assisted reproduction may be underweight or born prematurely. But this not true and the assisted reproduction process has no effect on the baby’s size or health. Indeed, the process called preimplantation genetic screening can make it possible to know if a couple is liable to pass any genetically inherited abnormalities on to their baby.

Women in their 30’s Will Have a Dramatically Reduced Chance of Conceiving

Although women under the age of 35 normally have a greater natural chance of getting pregnant, women who are beyond this age still have a good chance of getting pregnant. Generally, female fertility tends to be at its peak between the late teens and early 20s and this declines steadily after, with the mid to late 30s usually a time at which a notable decrease can happen.

But, this does not need to significantly affect your ability to conceive. Fertility treatments are continuing to improve and options like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg donation help a lot of women to get pregnant later in life.

Success Rates for IVF is Low

One common unfounded myth is that IV success rates are not very high and the procedure does not guarantee a woman to get pregnant. The truth is that IVF success rates are higher than people think. IVF technology has significantly improved and the chances of conceiving have greatly improved.

There are Low Success Rates in Frozen Embryo Transfer

Some people think that freezing is likely to damage the eggs or reduce their quality. However, experts say that frozen embryo transfer is just as successful as using fresh embryos for IVF. As a matter of fact, cryopreservation is a successful method to preserve young, healthy eggs to increase a woman’s chance of getting pregnant.

Assisted Reproduction is Only for Women

Usually, people think that assisted reproduction is designed only for women. But, Fertty International method included treatments meant to help increase the chances of conceiving if the male partner has problems. For instance, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a technique included within IVF treatment.
